Jaiprakash Industries came into existence in 1986 with the amalgamation of Jaiprakash Associates (P) Ltd (a construction company) and Jaypee Rewa Cement, (a company which has a 1-mtpa cement plant at Rewa, MP). Both companies were promoted by Jaiprakash Gaur. The amalgamated company went public in 1986. While the construction division was already well-established, specialising in turnkey hydro-electric power projects, the cement plant went on stream in 1986. Later in 1992 it commissioned the second cement unit of 1.2 mtpa at the same location. In 1995-96 the company obtained ISO-9002 Certificate for "Manufacture and Marketing of Cement & Clinker" from world renowned BVQI (Bureau Veritas Quality International) accredited by Dutch Council for certification and also achieved two National Awards for Best Improvement in Energy Performance for 1994-95 and Best Improvement in Thermal Energy Performance for 1995-96.In Mar. 2001, the company has recieved santion from the Allahabad High Court for its scheme of arrangement, whereby the cement business of the company was transferred and vested in its wholly owned subsidiary company, Jaypee Rewa Cement with effect from Apr.'01.
