Indo Gulf Fertilisers Limited, a Aditya Birla Group Company came into existence as a result of the demerger process carried out by the erstwhile Indo Gulf Corporation. As per the demerger plan the nonferrous metal business was merged with another group company Hindalco Industries and the fertiliser business is vested with Indo Gulf Fertilisers. IGFL as a new entity came into effect from February 12, 2003. Indo Gulf is a leading producer of Urea with a growing presence in its core markets.
IGFL operates one of India's energy efficient gas based fertiliser plant at Jagdishpur in UP. This plant was setup in technical collaboration with Topse, Denmark. The company is concentrating on production of nitrogenous fertiliser i.e Urea and Ammonia. IGFL have the distinction of being the first fertiliser company in India to secure the ISO 9002 certification for the manufacture and supply of Urea and now it has also recieved ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management Systems.
Indo Gulf Fertiliser markets its nitrogenous fertilisers under the brand name of Shaktiman which enjoys strong brand equity in UP and neighbouring states. During February 2004 Shaktiman was relaunched as Birla Shaktiman.
The Company is also exploring the possibility of Brownfield expansion when feedstock availability improves.
During 2004-05 the Company planned to raise its Urea capacity from 2620 MTPD to 3360 MTPD through de-bottlenecking to existing faciities & also an additional greenfield expansion and this project is awaiting necessary approvals. The company has launched Neem Coated Urea 'KrishiDev'.
The company has merged with Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd and as per the scheme of amalgamation,Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd will issue One equity share of Rs.10/- each for every Three equity shares of Rs.10/- each held by the shareholders in Indo Gulf Fertilisers.
