Chinese equities registered declines on Wednesday, as investors maintained a reserved posture in anticipation of the highly anticipated Trump-Xi summit. The Shanghai Composite retreated 0.39% to 3,936.5, and the Shenzhen Component decreased 0.64% to 13,636.1. Investor sentiment was dampened following the inconclusive preliminary discussions in New York concerning a potential extension of the tariff truce, presently scheduled to expire in November.

Market participants are currently focused on the forthcoming Trump-Xi meeting, anticipating indications regarding trade policy and the overall trajectory of US-China relations. The discussions are also anticipated to address delicate matters including artificial intelligence, Iran, and Taiwan, as both parties endeavor to preserve equilibrium in their bilateral relationship.

Among significant underperformers, Bank of China’s shares decreased by 1.05%, CNOOC retreated 2.42%, CATL decreased 1.19%, Suzhou Dongshan Precision Manufacturing declined 2.58%, and Weichai Power shed 4.22%.
