GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is online trading?
Generally, online trading refers to buying and selling securities via the Internet.
With online trading, you can access a brokerage firm's website (like Arihant) through
your regular Internet Service Provider. Once there, you consult information provided
on the website and log into your trading accounts to place orders and monitor your
account activity. You can buy and sell shares through your own computer without
dealing with a dealer.
Why trade online? What are the benefits
of online trading?
Online trading is a convenient, quick and smart way of trading in the equity markets.
Some of the advantages of trading online are listed below:
- An obvious advantage of online trading is that your transactions would be virtually
paperless. Your trading account would be linked to your demat and bank accounts,
ensuring a smooth transaction process. This is especially helpful in the extant
T+2 settlement system, where you have just two days to settle your transaction.
- Reduced paperwork. You don’t need to sign and submit demat slips with the depository
while selling shares. You don’t even need to write cheques while purchasing shares.
- Online trading helps you to trade anytime, anywhere – better, smarter and the way
you want. You no longer need to communicate buy/sell orders to your dealer. The
absence of manual intervention ensures that you are completely in control of all
transactions.
- Instant price updates on your trading portal and the facility to modify/cancel your
orders till the point that they are executed.
- You get trade confirmations in an instant so any errors in judgment can be quickly
rectified.
- Online trading systems do not differentiate between small and big investors or small
and large trades, unlike a dealer who may favour investors with larger investments
since that would mean a higher brokerage.
- For Non-Resident Indians (NRI), trading online is perhaps their easiest option to
invest in the Indian stock markets.
What are the risks of online trading?
Investing in equities always entails risk regardless of the method used. New investors
need to understand the principles of investing, their own risk tolerance, and their
investment goals before venturing into the stock market. In addition, online investors
may want to consider other risks. High Internet traffic may affect online investors'
ability to access their account or transmit their orders. Online investors should
be skeptical of stock advice and tips provided in chat rooms or bulletin boards.
Investors should do their own research before acting on these tips. Also, for some
online investors, there is a temptation to "overtrade" by trading too frequently
or impulsively without considering their investment goals or risk tolerance. Overtrading
can effect investment performance, raise trading costs, and complicate your tax
situation.

Orders entered electronically are usually executed quickly; however, there is no
assurance that this will always occur. You should be aware that high trading volumes
can cause delays in executions. Market volatility and delays in executions due to
trading volume can result in trade executions at prices significantly different
from the quoted price of the security at the time the order was entered. The speed
of your Internet Service Provider may also have an effect on order transmittal and
execution. Timing in execution of orders may also be impacted by market volume,
order queues at market centers and other systems issues.

TRADING ORDERS – square-off and delivery
What is the Auto Square off feature?
With i-Trade there is an auto-square off facility by default settings. So when you
trade in the market all your open positions are squared-off automatically at 15.15
hours everyday. For e.g.
|
Case I: |
If position - ACC Buy 100@ Rs .500 product type MAR
At 3.15pm system would automatically punch an order for ACC Sell 100 @ Market Rate
that time.
|
|
Case II: |
If position - RIL Sell 20@ Rs .1750 product type MAR
At 3.15pm system would automatically punch an order for RIL Buy 20 @ Market Rate
that time.
|
However, if you have intimated for turning off auto square-off facility, during
the setting of the software, the facility will not be active and it will be delivery
marked orders. But in this feature, you can only make purchases upto the amount
that is in your client account with Arihant and carry on sales of only those shares
that are in your Arihant DP account.
How to check of auto square-off facility
is on?
You can confirm with the branch through which the account was opened or with the
Administrator.
What if I don’t want auto square-off facility?
If you don’t want auto square-off facility in a fresh order that is being punched
then instead of choosing ‘MAR’, click on ‘DEL’ option from the drop-down menu under
Trd. Acc in the order placement window. If you don’t want auto square-off facility
in shares which have been traded then from the trade book you can modify the trade
from MAR to DEL by clicking on ‘DEL’ option from the drop-down menu under Trd Acc.
DEL option intimates the system to take delivery for the order placed. If you don’t
square off the transaction, the system automatically takes delivery of the stock
you have purchased or processes the sale order. When you choose DEL, your trade
will not be reversed and the trade will be carried out normally, i.e. if you have
bought some shares, you will receive the delivery of those shares on pay-in date
and you will have to pay for the purchase.
Can I change the order type for an executed
trade?
Yes if you want to convert your TRADE from ‘MAR’ to ‘DEL’ account or vice-versa,
you can easily do the needful.
If you executed a transaction as MAR for Intra day trading, but later on decide
that you will take delivery for the same and don’t want your trade to be squared
off at 15.15 hoursthen change your trade to a “DEL” trade.
If you executed a transaction as DEL for delivery trading, but later on decide that
you will square off today and don’t want to carry the position then change your
trade to a “MAR” trade and can square it off.
- For Exe clients: In the Trade Book right click on the trade to be changed
and change the Account type as “MAR/DEL”, as required, and submit the order.
- For Web clients: In the Trade Log click on the Exchange Trade No. (first
column) for the trade to be changed and change the Account type as “MAR/DEL”, as
required, and submit the order.
The condition being that when converting Buy from MAR to DEL sufficient margin should
be available, and when converting Sell from MAR to DEL stock should be available
in your DP Free Stock.
What is the effect of Trade conversion
on my Margin?
On margin trading you are allowed delivery 1 time (x) and intraday trading 5 times
(x), thus Trade Conversion will affect your margin as follows:
E.g. Trade executed as: SAIL Buy 100@ Rs. 100 in DEL, Margin Blocked would be 100*100
= Rs.10000. If this trade is converted to MAR the new margin blocked would be (10000/5)
= Rs. 2000.
E.g. Trade executed as: SAIL Buy 100 @ Rs. 100 in MAR, Margin Blocked would be (10000/5)
= Rs. 2000. If this trade is converted to DEL the new margin blocked would be 100*100
= Rs.10000.
